Castle in Baranów Sandomierski

One of the most beautiful aristocratic residences in Poland, belonged to the excellent families: Leszczyński, Lubomirski and Krasicki. Created in the years 1579-1606 by the famous Italian Santi Gucci, it was expanded in the first half of the 17th century, when a magnificent attic was erected on the walls, and around the castle – bastion fortifications, unfortunately not retained to this day. The interiors were decorated at that time with rich stucco by G. Falconi. At the end of the 17th century  Tylman from Gameren, the best architect working in Poland at that time, added a gallery to the west wing.
Two fires, in 1849 and 1898, completely destroyed the interiors. The castle, rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century by the Dolańskis with the participation of architect T. Stryjeński, was devastated in 1944.
In the years 1958-1969, the Sulfur Combine in Machów carried out its major renovation.
The building is surrounded by a garden in the French style, which looks particularly beautiful in the summer months. Exhibitions on the ground and first floor (furniture, paintings, sculptures, fabrics, armor) make up stylish interiors reminiscent of the period of splendor of the castle. It is worth seeing the underground with an archaeological exhibition and an exhibition devoted to the extraction and processing of sulfur.
