Follow the Chopin

Western Mazovia, together with the Kampinos Forest, lies almost in the middle of Poland. The Mazovian landscape – a sandy roads, willows on balks and meadows with poppies and cornflowers – through associations with Chopin’s music has grown to become a national symbol. Such landscapes happen here only away from the crowded main roads. It is worth coming here regardless of the season, although it is most pleasant from spring to autumn, when willows have leaves, and Chopin concerts are held in Żelazowa Wola.

Brochów – an early medieval town with an interesting church, which is famous as the place of baptism of Fryderyk Chopin and the wedding of the composer’s parents. The church is one of the most unusual sacral buildings – it is a defensive church. This church-castle was surrounded by a wall, which was once additionally reinforced with a moat.

Żelazowa Wola – one of the flagship Polish monuments; lies among nice fields, near the southern borders of the Kampinos Park. Fryderyk Chopin’s parents lived in the manor of the Skarbek family. The manor house itself was destroyed during World War I, but there was an outbuilding in which, according to tradition, the Chopins lived and where the future composer was born on 22 February 1810. Even before the war, the area was bought and the outbuilding was restored. The manor house is currently one of the most photographed monuments. Inside a small museum was organized, which gathered some equipment from the era, a nice tiled stove, copies of portraits and documents and, of course, a piano, on which Chopin’s works are performed in the summer.
