Sandomierz
Sandomierz lays on a high Vistula embankment, at the junction of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains and the Sandomierz Basin. It belongs to the unique cities in the history of our country, because it avoided major destruction during both world wars. Due to its location and the accumulation of memorabilia of thousand-year history, it was entered into the register of monuments as an urban – architectural – landscape complex of world rank. The surroundings of Sandomierz captivate with their picturesqueness. In addition, many monuments are concentrated here in a small area: magnificent residences, mysterious ruins, rich museums, places of religious cult. One of the main attractions of Sandomierz is the underground tourist route. However, it is also worth seeing other monuments, such as: the Town Hall, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Castle, the Opatów Gate, Collegium Gostomianum, the Długosz House, churches and townhouses. Sandomierz is also famous for its gorges, the most famous of which are the Queen Jadwiga Gorge and the Piszczele Gorge.
